Glenwood Springs Hosts Classic Car Show
So my buddy G, the unofficial guide to all things Glenwood Springs, is the ultimate classic car enthusiast.
Glenwood Springs is home to many classic car owners who are looking forward to this year’s 7th Annual Classic Car Show, an all-day event that features live music, family fun, and some of the greatest rebuilt classic cars in Colorado. on Sat. Aug. 7.
For many, the best part is hearing the great stories owners share about their cars.
Classic cars have that appeal – they inspire reminiscing about your first car – or about someone else’s car.
G has a buddy here in town who used to get scolded by his mother when he’d stand out in front of the Hotel Denver and watch Chicago gangster Diamond Jack Altier pull up outside in his beautiful chrome-plated Model A Ford. The Hotel Denver served as the temporary home to the legendary gangster and during Prohibition, Diamond Jack often came to Glenwood to fish and use the mineral springs.
G’s buddy remembers taking a ride in the rumble seat of Diamond Jack’s car and how his mother had a fit about it because Jack always carried revolvers.
Several years later after a whiskey-fueled argument over a poker game, Diamond Jack shot two men through a door of the Hotel Denver.
“It proves one thing,” Said G.
Sometimes you just need a good getaway car.
